5 Easy Steps For Writing An Article That Gets Top Results

You may not know it, but you have an easy way to bring targeted traffic to your site. You can write articles for publication in ezines that will continue to bring you traffic to your site long after they appear online. Just think of this as an unstoppable traffic generator for your online business.

You do not have to be a Hemingway to be a great article writer. There are some basic rules to follow though. Here are 5 steps to writing a good article that will attract attention and result in more traffic and sales for your business.

ACTION STEP 1 - Create A Hot Title

You must grab the attention of the reader first. People scan everything before they commit to reading it. Let them know what the article is about in a way that makes them want to dig into it for more information. Two classic ways to make a good title are to use a “How to” format, such as, “How To Get A Base Hit 7 Times Out Of Ten”, and the “Tips” format, which might go something like this: “5 Super Easy Tips To Relieve Stress”.

ACTION STEP 2 - Get Your Reader’s Attention With An Interesting Opening Sentence

The next most important part of writing your article is to grab the reader with a powerful first sentence. This will keep them interested and wanting more information. Two of the best ways to hook your reader is to ask a question or to state a fact.

A question should make the reader curious to find out the answer by finishing the article. If you state a fact, you must make it the basis for the rest of your article.

ACTION STEP 3 - Discuss The Main Points In The Body Of The Article

Here is where you provide the content of your article, and the solutions to the problem that you are solving for the reader. Your purpose here is to educate and inform. Address each problem and follow it with the solution. Or if you are giving tips to your reader, you can list each tip in the order that best solves their problem.

ACTION STEP 4 - Summary and Ask Your Reader To Take Action

Always include a brief summary for maximum results. Then tell your reader why it is important for them to take action now. Give a benefit or two as an incentive for them to respond now. This can be a link to your website or newsletter. After all, this was the primary purpose of your article.

ACTION STEP 5 - Include A Powerful Resource Box After Your Article

You absolutely need to make a resource box promoting your website, eBook, eCourse or affiliate program. The resource box gives the reader another way to get more information. This will spur the traffic to your promotion as more people read your article. Create a resource box that tells who you are and what you are offering to the reader. This should take no more than 3-6 lines of text.

These 5 steps will ensure that you have an article that people will want to read and then visit your website. Just use this easy 5-step format and simply fill in the details with your own information. Then distribute your articles to ezine and newsletter publishers in your business niche. The result will be more targeted traffic and increased visibility for your business.

Article Marketing: Top 5 Mistakes Made By Article Marketers

While there are many ways to increase your website traffic, Article Marketing is one of the best as there are so many benefits. Sure, you can generate fast website traffic through Pay-Per-Click advertising but if you stop advertising, your traffic disappears immediately!

Article Marketing is different. Done properly, Article Marketing brings credibility, targeted website traffic and a huge influx of one-way backlinks.

Think about all the benefits…

Web surfers benefit by reading your articles and the valuable content they provide. You, in turn, are viewed as an expert and get the opportunity to “start a conversation” with the reader.

If your readers enjoy your articles, they’re likely to click the link you’ve provided in your resource box to learn more about their topic of interest.

Another huge benefit of Article Marketing is the increase in one-way backlinks. The more quality links a site can produce, the better the odds are the site will be found in the search engines.

This is phenomenal as your articles will bring you direct website traffic and improve your chances of getting “free traffic” from the organic Search Engine Result Pages (SERP’s).

That said, there are a number of things the article marketer must know to improve their chances of success.

Here are the Top 5 mistakes made by article marketers:

1. Failure to learn the basic requirements of the article directories.

Each article directory has its own set of rules and regulations but the majority of them are pretty consistent. If you error on the side of caution… like not including HTML coding in your article’s body text, you’ll find your articles gain wider acceptance.

2. Failure to treat the Article Directory Editors with respect.

Since most article directories allow authors to submit articles for free, the Editors are under no obligation to accept or publish the articles we submit.

It is wise to treat the Editors with kindness and respect. Learn their regulations and follow them.

Don’t submit articles unless they are unique and well-written and don’t try to “trick” them by re-submitting an article after only making a few “tweaks.”

3. Submitting an article with a poorly-written title.

Many article marketers spend a good deal of time perfecting their body text but put little thought into their title copy.

This is a huge mistake as a “killer” title is vital to an article’s success. Make sure your titles contain relevant keywords and make them enticing to your audience.

Titles which include an element of curiosity are read more often.

4. Submitting an article without a “killer” resource box.

Like the title, many article marketers fail to capitalize on the benefits the resource box provides.

The whole goal of Article Marketing is to get readers to read and enjoy our articles and then get them to click on the link(s) we’ve provided in our resource box to visit our site.

Without this traffic, we’ve lost the main benefit that Article Marketing provides… targeted website traffic.

Write your resource box copy in the “third person” and make sure you include an element which directs your reader to take action.

You can be aggressive and use something like “Click Here” or include a more subtle element like “Please visit my site for more information.”

Either way, make sure to include an “action element” and provide the link to your site.

5. Stopping too soon.

Article Marketing is very effective and much faster than pure SEO but it still takes some time to realize the full benefits.

Too often, article marketers write a couple of articles and then stop because they don’t experience the success they’ve envisioned.

In order to keep yourself motivated, it’s important you track your progress. Make note of your Alexa traffic rating (if any), your Google PageRank and your backlinks before beginning your Article Marketing campaign.

Also, check your site’s Search Engine Placement in the major search engines for the keywords you’ll be targeting.

Check these stats every month and compare them to the figures you recorded before beginning your Article Marketing campaign. I’m sure you’ll see a significant improvement and get the “fuel” you need to continue your Article Marketing efforts.

While I’m sure I haven’t covered everything, these 5 tips will help you stay in the “good graces” of Article Directory Editors everywhere and will help your articles be found more often.

The “Golden Rule” is alive and well! Remember to treat each Editor with kindness and respect and they in turn, will promote your articles for maximum effect.

The Resource Box as a Traffic Builder

More and more people are learning the secrets of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Many webmasters have seen the impact articles have on their website traffic. Some have even created sites devoted entirely to providing articles that could be read by their website visitors and have links leading to related topics.

The sites may feature many articles on a wide range of topics. As a website visitor reads the articles they have searched for, they can find at the end of the article a resource box that can be clicked on to link them to the site that has submitted the article. Of course the article would relate to the site’s topics and theme. If the article is about rotating the tires, the resource box may lead to a link to a site that sells tires or car parts.

A resource box is what you usually find at the end of an article. It will contain the name of the author, a brief description of the author, a brief description of the sponsoring site and a link. If a reader likes what they read, they would be inclined to find out where the article came from and to read more. The resource box is their link to the source of the article and should entice them to go to the site and do some more reading or research for the subject or topic they are interested in.

Now we know what resource boxes are. But what are the benefits of having a good resource box? Mainly it’s driving traffic to your site. Many sites will happily publish articles because they add unique content to their pages. They also get affiliation with other sites that can be beneficial for them as well. For the sponsoring site, visitors clicking on links in the resource box increase incoming traffic.

So what is good content for your resource box? Essentially, you should use keywords that are popular and used by your target audience. There are many tools you can find online that can help you determine which keywords to use (Overture’s keyword tool, for example).

You only get a small space for your resource box so you need to make the most of it. Try to catch the attention of your reader with enticing resource box content that will make them want to learn more. Unlike TV ads, you don’t have visual aids to drive your point home. But you do have the power of the reader’s imagination. With the right content, you can intrigue them.

Another tip is to use keywords that are specifically related to your site - don’t mislead your potential website visitors. Establish your credibility so that more people will want to visit your site and see what you have to offer. Make the visitors click your resource box by providing content that makes a lasting impression. You only get one chance to wow them and hundreds of chances to repulse them. Be fun and creative but at the same time show that you have a great deal to offer. Hopefully that isn’t too much to ask for in one paragraph.

A Short Summary of Article Marketing

Article marketing is the most widely-used tool over the Internet for website promotions. By definition, article marketing means submitting keyword-rich articles to various places on the Internet like article directories, newsletters, online publications, etc. with the author’s name and link to the author’s website.

When a visitor reads the marketing article, there is a very huge probability that the user will visit the link and thus, traffic will be generated on the author’s website.

Thus, article marketing serves the following purposes:-
(i) Providing more visibility and readability to the author’s works
(ii) Generating traffic to the author’s website
(iii) Creating actual sales on the author’s website and increasing business.

However, marketing articles have to be written in a very specific way, which is much different than the way normal publication articles are written. This is because the marketing article is a promotion article and it needs to satisfy some requirements.

All marketing articles focus around keywords. A keyword is a specific set of terms that people use often in their searches on popular search engines like Google. Search engines rank web pages according to the keywords contained in them.

So, if the specific keyword is present in the marketing article, there are very high chances that the article link will show up in the first few pages of the search engine and the article will get a hit. This will bring the visitor to the article and hence, make the link of the author’s website accessible to them.

From then on, it depends on the article how it carries the visitor forward. If the article is informative and impressive, then the visitor will want to read more; and very likely will click on the website link of the author. This results in building up the traffic to the website, and could also lead to a substantial sale.

Marketing article writers always take great pains to make their articles more and more impressive to their readers. Apart from using the keyword several times in the article, there are other tricks followed like including a very compelling leading paragraph, interspersing the article with own points of view and deductions, putting in impressive facts and figures, using bulleted and numbered lists to make the article easier to read, and attaching a small anecdote or a thought-provoking question at the end.

All this might make the reader to continue reading at the author’s site. The title is also made novel and catchy in a keyword-rich manner so as to bring the reader to the site.

It must be remembered that marketing articles may not be literature, but they do achieve a very specific purpose. And that is, generating business for a website. As such, there are high stakes involved with article marketing.

Website companies could spend more than they did on building the website itself on their promotion through article marketing. But the profits of a website that markets in this manner are extremely huge, while a website without article marketing could end up in ignominy.

How to Add Punch to Your Marketing Article

A marketing article is much, much different from a normal article. You may be a good article writer, or you may have had great experience writing essays and theses, but, sorry to say, that will not count in the field of article marketing.

This is an advertising world, where the marketing article is nothing but a tool for promotion. As such, the marketing article follows a very different kind of structure and syntax from articles written solely for the purpose of publication.

In order to be a good writer for writing marketing articles, there are more than a few points to be kept in mind. Experience of course matters a lot; you become a better writer as you write more and more articles.

An experienced writer can add that punch to any article to convert it to a marketing article. These are some of the things that can make an article into a marketing article:-

(i) Check for the keyword occurrence in the article. Your article must focus on the keyword. You can get a list of much-used keywords from sites such as Overture. Once you get a popular keyword suited to your article, blend it within the article.

You may have to rewrite certain sentences so that the keyword appears in them. Keep the keyword density at about 3 to 5%. That means, if you are writing an article of 400 words, it is enough if the keyword appears four to five times in it.

(ii) You must remember that the average Internet user is an impatient person, and does not spend more than thirty seconds reading articles. However, if there is something that grabs their attention, they might read on.

You can do this by putting some very interesting facts and figures in the first paragraph itself. There must be some pointed questions asked, for which the reader would want to know answers.

(iii) Make the article easy to read. The stuff used for article marketing is not literature; it is normal everyday stuff that people want to know. Marketing articles are not for providing knowledge; they are for giving information. Keep this tone constant in your article. Use bulleted lists and headings where possible.

(iv) Divide your articles into paragraphs, each carrying at least one interesting point.

(v) The title of the article must be extremely catchy and must have the keyword in it. The keyword will ensure that the article comes up on the search engine, and the catchy title will ensure that the visitor will open the link.

(vi) Finally, you will have to write the author’s bio and give a link to the website. This part is also important, because most visitors who have read through the article will certainly contemplate for a few seconds whether to visit the author’s site or not.

If the author is projected as an expert in the field, there are more chances of a visit. And, of course, use all the hyperlinks properly in the back link, or they will misguide the visitor.

There is certainly much more to writing a good marketing article, but this ought to be enough to get you started. Begin writing, because each article you write will be part of a growing-up process.

Article Marketing: How to Make the Start?

Article marketing essentially means writing keyword-rich articles for promotion of your website and to put it up on article directories, online journals and publications, newsletters and such other places where they can be easily seen by Internet users.

A link of the author’s website is known as the back link is provided below the article, where the Internet user may visit after reading the article. Thus, article marketing is a method of advertising the website.

People who have websites that are conducting some sort of business or the other are always on the lookout to promote their websites in more and more profitable ways. For this reason, there is always a great demand for article marketing among website owners. It is not difficult to market your website through articles; and this is a starting instruction guide for you how to go about it if you need.

(i) Decide the topic and the keyword to write on

A good marketing article is always keyword-rich. That means, it should have the words that Internet users often search for. These words, known as keywords, must occur several times in the article. This is how the article will show up on the search engines like Google.

The choice of the keyword must be made judiciously. Here, tools like Overture can help. Overture can make suggestions on what word combinations people are generally searching for more frequently on the Internet. Make your choice of the most popular word string and use that in your article profusely. Google Suggest is another place where you can find how many people are searching for particular keywords.

Quite obviously, the topic of the article should pertain to your website. At least, there must be some common strand. But remember that whatever the topic, use the keyword which is searched more popularly. That, and only that, can ensure better ranking of your article on the search engine pages.

(ii) Have the article written

If you have writing skills, you can write the article yourself. It is best you write it yourself since you will know your website the best. Otherwise, you could get good ghostwriters from freelance web sites.

Whether you write the article yourself or have it ghostwritten, it must go on the article directory in your name, and you must make sure it is copyrighted to only you. You can check for plagiarism with the copyscape.com.

(iii) Submit your article

When you have the article, you should not waste time in submitting it on the Internet. Article directories are the best place to put up your articles.

You must submit your articles regularly to get good traffic. Initially, two to three articles a week is okay, but that helps nowhere if you want to gain visibility. Some websites may put up as many as hundred articles a week on different directories.

You can also ask online publications if they will be interested in your articles, with a link to your website placed below it. Most chances are they will agree, because they are always on the lookout for content on their websites.

These are some of the steps to help you begin. But there are many hidden tricks of the trade which you can learn only by experience, or by reading other ‘article marketing’ articles like this one.

Article Marketing: How To Craft A Compelling Resource Box

Article Marketing can be a magnificent technique for website promotion but only if it’s done right. I mean, why are we writing articles anyway?

Are we writing them just because we love to write? Are we writing them because we want to brag to our friends and family about the fact that we’ve been “published?”

I don’t know about you, but most article marketers, like me, write articles for two reasons: To offer valuable and interesting content to our “target market” and then entice them to click the link provided in the Resource Box.

Really, at the end of the day, we want targeted website traffic and as much of it as humanly possible. It’s for this reason that you must put as much thought into crafting your Resource Box as you do your article copy.

Here are 5 tips to make your Resource Box a winner:

1. Write your Resource Box in the “third-person.”

While it may seem silly, readers find them to be much more credible than those written in the “first-person.” You will gain more trust and get more clicks, if your Resource Box says, “Author Name is…” rather than “I am a…”

It’s cultural conditioning, really. How many books have you read where the “Author Bio” said something like, “Hi, my name is John Smith and I’m the author of this fine book you’ve just purchased?”

The answer: Probably never!

Almost every book sites an author’s credentials in the “third-person” and so should you.

2. Your Resource Box should include information which speaks to your expertise.

If you’re writing an article about “Gardening,” you might include a statement like: “Author Name has been gardening for over 22 years.” Any honest statement of credibility will be well-received.

3. Include a clear “Call-To-Action.”

It can be subtle, like “please visit: YourDomain.com” or more direct, like “Click Here for more information.” Just make sure to include a “Call-To-Action” or you’ll miss out on a whole lot of clicks!

Believe it or not, people really do want to know what you’d like them to do. Make it easy on them; don’t leave them in “limbo.”

4. Use “Anchor Text” links whenever the article directory allows.

“Anchor Text” is any piece of text that is hyperlinked to a website. “Anchor Text” will boost your site’s Search Engine Optimization by improving the value of the link in the search engine’s eyes.

5. Make an offer for some “free information” in your Resource Box.

This won’t always be applicable but whenever possible, making an offer for free information will generally bring more website traffic.

Just make sure to use an autoresponder to capture your visitor’s contact information so you can follow up with them in the future. This will allow you to improve your credibility and improve your relationship with those who join your list.

Hopefully, this article will have been a great benefit to you! I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to craft a compelling Resource Box.

It’s quite a shame; many article marketers spend lots of time writing their “body content” and then put little thought into their Resource Box copy.

Remember, we’re involved in Article Marketing because we want targeted traffic to our websites. If we’re not generating traffic, we might just as well buy PPC advertising.
