Can’t Create A Lasting Impression? . . . You’ll Never Get Hired!
Of course, if you’re in the job market, you want to get hired. But there’s one absolutely essential ingredient. Without it you’ll never get hired!
Let’s take a look at how the hiring dynamic works. Unfortunately, we’ve been taught to focus on our work history and experience as the essential determination for a decision-maker to decide that you’re the right person for the job. Nothing could be further from the truth!
You see, an employer looks way beyond your resume to make a hiring decision. And if you’re not aware of what’s going on in his/her mind, you’ll miss out on what you have to do to lock up the job.
For example, we’ve been studying how hiring decisions are made for many years. We’ve learned that, in the final analysis, you’ll be offered the job because an employer likes you. That’s right! If an employer doesn’t feel good about you or have some connection with you that goes beyond you work credentials, you’re not going to get the job!
So, the question becomes, “What do I have to do to win over an employer?”
Well, being a phony doesn’t work. But being friendly and focusing on personal strengths and character traits rather than work history and experience will go a long way. Keeping the communication with an employer informal and conversational rather than a Q&A session helps too.
But, most important of all, you have to create a lasting impression. The reason for this is very simple. An employer will rarely make a final decision about you on the spot. He/she will want to think about you, compare you with other candidates, review ways you can make a contribution to the organization.
If he can’t remember you, you’re out! This decision-maker has a lot more going on than spending time
going over your credentials. Unless you do something to make yourself stand out in his/her mind, you’ll become just another forgettable job candidate. In short, you won’t get hired.
So, what’s the secret?
Learn to tell stories about yourself! I call them “war stories.” Talk about yourself in vivid, colorful stories that paint a bright picture of you in action, actually doing the things you’re especially proud of, rather than listing your work history and accomplishments.
People can get very interested in your graphic picture of you in action. And more importantly, they’ll remember them after you’re gone which, like I said before, is when most hiring decisions are made. In other words, the more memorable your stories the more you move the odds in your favor that you’ll get hired!
Telling war stories about you takes a bit of practice because it’s not something we’re used to doing. However, if you write out six or eight good, juicy stories illustrating your main accomplishments and then practice them with family or friends, I promise you, you’ll be in the winner’s circle where you can count on hearing the welcome words, “You’re hired!”

Job Search Myth #1 . . . My Resume Will Get Me A Job!
Let me tell you about a sad job search myth. You spend a lot of time on your resume. You worked and reworked to get the chronology right. You’re able to hold it up and say you’re proud of what it represents. You expect it to work for you. You plan to have your resume find you a job.
But it’s a job search myth!
There are several compelling reasons why counting on your resume to get you a job is a job search myth.
1. There are millions of resumes in circulation at any given moment — in print and online. The chances of your masterpiece getting directly into the hands of the person who is going to hire you are very, very slim.
2. Assuming your resume does match some of an organization’s needs, it’s going to go through an institutional screening process. A lower level HR associate or assistant to the assistant manager is going to be deciding whether or not you’re a worthy candidate.
3. You’ve got competition. When you submit a resume, you’re putting yourself right in the middle of your competitors with nothing but the cleverness of your document to distinguish you from the rest of the crowd. What are your chances that’s going to happen?
4. My resume will be carefully reviewed by a qualified decision-maker. NOT! We know from studies that an employer spends a maximum 20-50 seconds reading a resume. If something doesn’t pop off the page at him/her in that first cursory reading it lands on the reject pile,
5. Employers aren’t interested in what you used to do for someone else. Your resume details how you’ve helped someone else be successful. Someone who’s interested in hiring you wants to know how you’re going to fit into their organization. And how you can contribute to their bottom line.
So, if I can’t count on a resume to get me a job, what good is it? How do I avoid this job search myth?
An excellent question! You see, no one is going to hire you unless they have a chance to meet you face-to-face. It’s in the course of that engagement that the initial (not final) screening decision is made. If that’s the case, then your resume can serve as a summary of your accomplishments to hand an employer AFTER you’ve met.
In a sense, it serves as a business card. It’s a reminder to an employer of some of the highlights you brought to his/her attention in the course of your meeting. And it becomes the basis for a follow-up letter, phone call, second meeting, etc.
Now, I’m not saying you shouldn’t have a quality resume. But you should be spending a lot more time researching organizations and decision-makers you’d like to go to work for. And then designing ways to get in front of them so you can make your case in person where it really counts.
That’s how you turn a job search myth into a job search success story!

Bad Credit and Finding New Employment
People can live without owning a home, they just rent. People can live without owning a car by riding the bus. People can go without health insurance; it is not ideal but possible. People learn how to deal with cash only instead of credit cards, but there is one thing that it is hard to function without - a job. Now it is having an effect on people’s employment in a way that it didn’t in the past.
It is important to know that the law prohibits an employer from denying employment to someone based on bankruptcy findings. However, the law does not prohibit an employer from denying an application, or even rescinding an offer, based on other credit issues.
Some of these issues could be inquiries, foreclosures, or collection actions. More and more companies are using credit reports as a means of hiring, firing, and for promotional purposes. One survey that was taken by the Society for Human Resource Management showed that 35% of companies are now performing this practice.
The most common practice for employers still remains to be the background check, but studies have found that if a company is pooling resources in order to verify background, more often than not, they will go ahead and pull the credit report also. However, many employers have found that finding credit mishaps did not determine whether or not an employee was more likely to steal.
The better predictor, most would say, is a full criminal background check, which would show things such as bounced checks. Employers will also use credit checks in order to make sure employment history is correct and that the Social Security numbers are valid. This is a measurement that is taken as a form of insurance for a company that is trying to hire new staff members.
Should you apply for a job with a governmental agency you will most likely have to go through a credit check. This might sound intimidating; however a governmental credit check isn’t as scary as having one done for a private company. Aside from the usual need for security clearance, the government will run a check if the job you are applying for will have you dealing with cash.
There are rules that people have to follow, regardless of the position that is being applied for. For instance, an employer has to have your permission before they can run a credit check. The permission has to be obtained in writing, and any deviation from this method is against the law.
Bankruptcy is not supposed to be considered a problem. Remember, they can take issue with you not paying your bills, but not if you have filed for bankruptcy. Finally, if your credit information is used against you in any way, the employer is required to tell you what the problem is.
When it comes right down to it, the best thing you can do for yourself is to stay on top of your credit. Credit affects people more and more with each passing year. During the time of our grandparents no one would have ever thought that they would be refused a job due to bad credit. Today, there are many people who lose their jobs due to bad credit and it is affecting us all in ways we never would have thought of.

How to Win The 21st Century Job War!
Let’s face it. You’re in a job war if you’re in the job market these days!
Why? Well, we live in a world of competition! Any job success strategy worth its salt has to take that into account. If you’re bent on winning your job war, you better be realistic about competition.
In short, to win the job war you need an alternative job success strategy.
Well, you already probably know that the alternative job search and non-traditional career advancement movement is dedicated to finding innovative alternative ways to accomplish career goals. These inventive strategies bypass old-fashioned ways of handling career and job search issues.
You know . . . trying to win the job war based on what you used to do for someone else. Like the way you represent yourself in a traditional resume. You see, handling competition requires an alternative job success strategy as well.
You see, the more competitive the field you’re in, the harder it is to overtake the competition and achieve your goal. The facts of life are that, once you get there, the next hurdle is holding your position and keeping the competition at bay.
To get to that special place you better be in top shape. The means being the smartest, toughest and strongest (physically and mentally). You also need to persistent, confident and truly believe in your talents–even when everything seems to be going wrong.
Depending on your earning power and level of responsibility, you’re probably expected to achieve astonishing results. At the same time, you’re more vulnerable and open to intense scrutiny. Your supporters are cheering you on while your competitors are watching and waiting for you to screw up.
Here’s what an alternative job success strategy looks like. If you want to be on track for superstar status, you have to be prepared to take on the biggest and riskiest projects. You also have to be prepared to fail miserably. But if you can survive, you’ve put together the fundamental principles of an alternative job success strategy and a non-traditional career advancement process.
If you’re not fit to play the job success game, then you’re better off adopting a strategy that puts you in a quiet and adequately paying job where you’re barely visible and not a target for anyone who wants your job. Doing this the right way is a measure of success as well, depending on your long-term career goals.
Part of any alternative job success strategy is knowing who you are and be satisfied that you’ve chosen the correct career path success plan that’s consistent with the kind of person you are.
So, whether you’re a hard-charging competitor whose willing and able to take significant risks . . . or you’re an average, committed employee who enjoys his/her job without any of the competitive worries . . . you can reassure yourself that you have a success strategy that works for you!

The Law of Attraction? The Secret to Love, Happiness and Success
Have you heard of the movie The Secret? It is truly one of a kind. First off, it had a world premier on March 26, 2006 - not really something new BUT it was also heavily marketed as “a Worldwide Internet Event” because the movie was made available for online viewing. So what IS the movie The Secret all about? It’s about the Law of Attraction.
The Movie The Secret - Unlock the Potential of the Universal Law of Attraction
The movie The Secret is not really a ‘movie’ in the traditional sense of the word. It’s more like a documentary with people providing commentaries on how life success, relationship success, business success, and more can be yours if only you know how to leverage the law of attraction.
What is great about the film is that it is never boring. You sit there riveted as you absorb this particular success principle. Another great thing about the movie is that you sit there listening to so many successful people attesting to this success system that never fails, providing credence to what the film is trying to teach.
The Law of Attraction 101
Put simply, the premise of the Law of Attraction is that everything that is happening to you NOW is something that you attracted to yourself. As is constantly repeated in the movie The Secret - what you think about, you bring about. The Law of Attraction is not really something that is new. Even when we were young weren’t we always taught to ‘think positive thoughts’ to turn away any ‘negative vibes’?
So since we were children, we have been exposed to the success through a positive mental attitude mantra. This is partly why the film really reaches out to its viewers - it is touching a nerve that is not completely unknown. It is understandable and easy to grasp.
However, LIFE happens and our childlike definition of success gets muddled. The Secret shows us that we should go back to this state of success through a positive mental attitude and we WILL see results.
How to Practice the Law of Attraction
So how does one put the Law of Attraction into practice? The movie The Secret reveals three steps.
One: ASK.
Quantify what you really want in life. Don’t just say you want to be rich, be specific. However, having said that, don’t forget that success is a journey. Asking for a million dollars in the bank tomorrow is self-defeating (although… not impossible as any lottery winner will attest) because you are setting a goal that is almost impossible. The result? You are persuading yourself that this particular law of success is not working and you abandon it and perhaps go back to your negative way of thinking.
Two: BELIEVE.
Once you specify what you want in love, life, business or whatever aspect, BELIEVE that you will get it.
Many people put themselves down thinking they are not worthy of such high ambitions. Well you know what? You are! So start believing that you will achieve success and YOU WILL.
Three: RECEIVE.
The Law of Attraction is all about putting forth into the universe what you want… and receiving it. It can be tomorrow, next week or in a couple of years but you will receive it in due course.
How To Start Bringing Success In Your Life
The Attitude of Gratitude. Start putting out those positive vibes by starting each day with thoughts of what you are already thankful for in life. This will give your day a ‘happiness kick’ that no caffeine drink can produce! The positive energy that this exercise produces will carry out through your day and ATTRACT other positive outcomes.
Dress for Success. Put forth a successful aura and success will be attracted to you like a magnet! Our outer appearance is almost always a reflection of how we feel inside so if you dress sloppily, you are putting forth negative energy. However, no need to run to the mall to break the bank for clothes. How about just trying to smile more often? Smiling is one of the best (and cheapest!) ways to put forth positive energy.
If you have teeth problems preventing you from radiating a bright, cheery smile, FIX IT NOW. Visit your dentist or if it’s just dark-stained teeth, use an at-home teeth bleaching product. In short, don’t let anything get in the way of a great smile.
So what are YOU going to do now that you know about the Law of Attraction? Practice it. Remember, the universe does not like delay… so ACT.

Career Change While Pregnant
Being pregnant can be difficult enough for many women who may suffer not only from health issues but also may have financial concerns due to the monetary responsibility of being a mother.
The constant thought of what is going to happen after the baby is born can be very stressful for them, particularly if they don’t want to go back to their present employer.
Many wish to make a career change while pregnant and feel that this is probably one of the best times for doing exactly that.
However, the opportunity of finding a new career, at this specific time in their lives, is very restrictive. How many employers want to take on a new employee, the mother of a new baby, knowing that she is very likely to be distracted by thoughts of the welfare of her baby throughout the working day rather than his or her company? They would also have their doubts on whether she would be reliable in her time keeping due to her baby’s needs.
However, a career change while pregnant is now very possible for every woman who wants to take the chance of working for themselves. They could utilise the skills they have accumulated during their time of working as an employee by setting themselves up as a consultant in specific areas of their knowledge base.
They could also use this time to take the opportunity of turning their hobby into a business. However, the handicap of this would be that they would have to allocate many hours into developing a new business venture and this is likely to be impossible with a new baby to look after.
The internet is possibly one area where a career change while pregnant would be an advantage to a woman at this point in her life. These advantages would include the fact that she would not have to leave the home, thus leaving her baby with someone else. She would always be on hand when required. She could work the hours she wanted to work and around the needs of her baby.
The skills required for her internet business could be acquired whilst still working for the employer and up until the time that the woman would have to leave the company on maternity leave.
Therefore finding an internet business which did not take too long to master the necessary skills could be the answer to many women who are looking for a career change while pregnant.

Things That Can Hinder Your Game Supplier Video Wholesale Business
On all outside seeming, a wholesale video game supplier business is most complete and nothing can go wrong with it. At least that is what the wholesale distributor sites on the Internet will have you know. But, be warned! There are many pitfalls in this trade. If you don’t play your cards well, this business can flounder like any other, and instead of realizing profits, you will discover yourself plummeted deep in debt.
So, what are the places where you can err with a Game Supplier Video Wholesale business? There are several, and you can discover almost all of them listed in the ebook that videogamesuppliers sells. There I am putting up some of the important ones that you want to know right away, in case you don’t land up with a hasty determination.
(i) Realize your market well.
This is the prime requisite of any business actually. Without you don’t know what your market is, and what kind of demand and supply pattern exists in it, you are likely to make a big boo boo. Before embarking on your business, make a detailed survey of how the gaming scenario is in your city and even in your country, if you are planning to ship that far.
(ii) Realize your competition well.
You will never be the only one in any business. There will be competitors, and some of them will have established themselves even before you came to know what a Game Supplier Video Wholesale business is. You will have to learn how your competition operates, and how they price their game titles. Check out their websites and see where you can improve. Try placing an order with them even, and see how they respond.
(iii) Realize your product well.
A good businessman must always be in love with his or her product, or the product they are selling. The same applies to video game titles. Appreciate each title, and keep them in stock. Market them all equally well on your website, or on eBay, whatever the case may be.
(iv) Realize your customer well.
Once you have got an order from a customer, be prompt in replying. Keeping them waiting is not a good thing to do at all, because video game players are always an impatient breed of people. Keep constant feedback. Send them an email to write down their opinions on the game, on your service, etc. Something like a feedback form. Then improve on those aspects. This will also ensure the customer keeps returning to you.
Your Game Supplier Video Wholesale business will fail if you do not focus on any one of these vital issues. You need to carry on your business with a passion in order to make the huge benefits websites promise, and not take it on as an adolescent hobby. Invest well, concentrate well, and only then will you be able to gain well.
Sean has become somewhat of a pundit on the subject of Game Supplier Video Wholesale business. He doesn’t mind sharing valuable tips with those who wish to join into the fray. You can take advantage of his expertise on his own website accessible at: http://www.wholesalevideogamesupplier.com.
Hotel Security Career - Tales From the Field
For those of you thinking of taking up a career in security work, here’s a little slice of life from my own experience:
I worked security jobs as my first career out of high school. This enabled me to work my way through higher education and keep an income stream coming. Security work is normally the best choice for that kind of situation; you certainly don’t want menial labor, it pays better than most entry-level unskilled jobs, and if you get the right post you can bring your homework with you. Most security supervisors won’t care if you bring books and homework with you - at least they know you aren’t going to sleep on the job!
But the post that sticks out in my memory as not being the one you can bring homework to was the hotel post. I pulled this stint for the better part of a year, before they rotated me out to a more sedate position. The hotel was known throughout the security company as their “action post”. Boy, was it ever!
First off, it was only two blocks from Disneyland in California, so we had guests year-round. Next, it had a formal restaurant attached, which had been one of the more happening spots in the metro Orange County area until the current owners of the chain bought it out. Now the restaurant was more of a sports bar and grill. Next, we had banquet/ball rooms, which were booked throughout the year for conventions, receptions, group events, and just about everything from high school proms to weddings. Now on top of that, add 1000 rooms in three buildings, plus a pool and jacuzzi.
There was never a quiet moment. My first duty on arriving on the graveyard shift was to close the pool at 10 PM. The pool was usually full of some group like three busloads of tourists who just got here half an hour ago from Arizona (summer) or Minnesota (winter) and were just getting a full-scale party going, when out comes the guard to kick them all out and lock it up. If I was running for a popularity contest, that blew my chances right there, and the night was just starting. Diplomatically convincing 50 people to abandon the pool was an exercise in crowd control which I won every night. We had to do this, because the noise would echo between the buildings and if we didn’t close the pool we’d have 500 guests complaining that they couldn’t sleep!
Then there might be an event or three going on in the three banquet rooms. These might be just winding down, but the event coordinators seemed to get a perverse thrill out of creatively booking the different groups in the banquet rooms so they’d come out in the hallway and clash. A Muslim wedding in Banquet room 1, a teen Christian Awana club event in Banquet room 2, and a goth/punk/alternative lifestyle singles dance in Banquet 3, for instance. I pictured the event coordinators cackling and rubbing their hands in glee, “Let’s see how the guard keeps THOSE THREE from fighting!” Quite a few of my calls were for breaking up fights, especially when alcohol was involved.
If I successfully got the pool and courtyard dumped out and the banquets to a peaceful conclusion, then it was time to watch the bar at the restaurant close at 2AM. The barkeep needed me on hand in case anybody got rowdy. They might get rowdy if we had to call a cab for them to go home when they’d rather not leave the car behind, but usually things went smoothly and I hardly even found people passed out in the bushes.
Then the actual business of patrolling the hotel through the night began. If I was lucky, we had a pretty sedate group of guests whose primary motivation was to actually sleep at night. If not, I might deal with noisy guests that everybody complained about, rooms full of kids jumping out their third story window to bound on the chain link enclosed yard below, unrequited lovers and the disputes they dragged out into the lobby, and the occasional college kegger. Quite a few times, we had drug dealers, who would send one person to book a room, then pull around back, unload their product, and do business for the city all night. They were a little hard to miss with people coming and going all night and the lobby switchboard showing a phone call every second at 3AM.
At about 5:30AM the checkouts began. These were people eager to get out and catch their flight out of town, back home, or to the next stop. This little flurry of activity would be dealt with by the desk staff, and I primarily helped by keeping out of the way… and rounding up the last of the night’s action. By the way, the hotel staff was always around, so I had plenty of “back-up”, and in fact at least as far as my co-workers were concerned, they were wonderful people.
I was actually on a first-name basis with the city police, so often did I have to call them to deal with the more troublesome guests. In the course of my time there, I busted five dope rings, foiled two attempted burglaries, caught three homeless people sneaking onto the property (one of whom was in the jacuzzi at 3AM in full view of the windows looking down on the courtyard), busted half a dozen underage drinking parties, and interrupted countless couples making out in their car in our expansive, dark, cozy parking lot, where I pointed out that maybe what they were doing wouldn’t look so good to families with kids coming home from Disneyland.
No, this isn’t a typical security job at all. Most night watch jobs involve a sleepy factory complex where your toughest problem is keeping awake and your most active time is when you run a punch clock around to make rounds. But this is just one example to show… how wild it gets!

6 Vital Career Factors You Must Consider
When we think of a dream job, the first thing that comes to mind are those cliched dream jobs involving tons of money and not a lot of work. The reality of a dream job is very different, though.
You can have all the money in the world and still be unhappy, and people who don’t work often end up finding all kinds of “jobs” to keep themselves busy.
A great career is about many things that combine into something that leaves you feeling happy and good about what you do. Let’s take a look at what a dream job really is:
Something Interesting
A dream job is one that you find interesting and that you like doing. In fact, those who are the happiest with their careers are individuals who have found a job that has something to do with what they love doing in their free time too.
Looking at your hobbies or your passions in life can be a good indicator of the type of job you’d be happiest in. And people are happiest being who they really are deep down, at work and at play.
There’s A Challenge
People hate being bored, and there is nothing more boring than having to work at the same old routine over and over. A little bit of challenge is a good thing to motivate people. Without challenge, there isn’t any sense of accomplishment or victory, and that’s a big motivation killer.
Remember that great story that Stephen Covey tells in ‘The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”? About the woman who’s life’s ambition is to build a wonderful house. And it takes years to achieve. The day it’s finished, she sits in her new lounge and cries. It wasn’t about getting the house. It was the challenge.
Fulfilment Is Yours
Making a difference matters. People need to know that they made a difference somewhere, that they aren’t disposable, and that they accomplish things that improve, change, or help.
From construction worker to salesperson to doctor, every great job leaves a person feeling like they made a difference in the project and its ultimate completion. Fulfillment makes us feel important, and that’s a good thing. It’s what we are here for.
Fits Like A Glove
The job you need is one that fits well with your personality. A job that doesn’t match who you are is going to be one that fits as well as a shoe with a pebble inside, constantly irritating. While we all try to choose jobs that pay well, one of the biggest factors of happiness and career success is a job that fits our personality and uses our best strengths.
If you’re math minded and quiet, a social sales job might not be the best for you. If you’re outgoing and like stimulation, an office job in a cubicle will drag you down. Feel like that? Take it as a sign; a message that it’s time to move on.
Something With Potential
Having room to grow and move up the ladder in your job is important. A dream job is one that allows you the chance to expand on your potential and work into positions where you can accomplish more.
If you enter a job that isn’t going to go anywhere, you’ll end up stagnating after you learn the routine, and your job satisfaction will plunge, leaving you unhappy.
Something Secure Enough
Job security is a big factor in comfort level, for some. If you have everything else you want in a dream job, but you’re constantly on edge wondering whether your position is safe, stress levels rise and you’ll be unhappy.
A dream job offers the security to try new things, to explore, to use your talents, and to know that next week, your job will still be there, and that you’ll still be working.
As Tim Gallwey says in “The Inner Game of Work”,
‘Too much challenge, Not enough safety = Stress’
‘Too little challenge, Too much safety = Boredom
What makes up a dream job is particular to each person and these six factors figure highly in what will create a job situation you can be happy with.
Take a look at the job you have now, and see where it ranks in terms of security, growth, interest, fulfillment and challenge. If the result is that your job doesn’t add up to a good mark, then maybe it’s time for a change, one that will leave you happy and satisfied for a long, long time.
A ‘dream job’ indeed. A magical career ahead!
(c) 2007 “How To Land Your Dream Job”. You can have the job of your dreams. It takes application, attention and the information you need to get you there, young or old. There’s all you need at Martin Haworth’s website, at http://www.HowToLandYourDreamJob.com
5 Great Places To Find The Perfect Job
The challenge we all face, whether we like it or not, is that we are, unless we are very fortunate financially indeed, going to have to work for our living, some way or another.
Now that ‘work’ word, can mean a whole host of things. From self-employment to real employment for someone else. The bottom line is that we need some way of producing an income that will keep us afloat. Fed and housed at the very least.
And to do work that makes us feel good is more than possible - so a job hunt is on, for something; somewhere, that is out there waiting. The perfect place for us to do the kind of work we love.
If we’ve got to do this work thing, then why not do it right eh?
So where might we start to look for this elusive ‘drean job’? Here are 5 great ideas for you.
1. Where You Work Now
Often, especially if you work in a big organization, there will be a huge range of jobs there, some of which might suit you down to the ground.
Indeed, if you are looking to manipulate your way to a great job, it might be a useful strategy to get into the organization first and then work your way into a position where you can apply for the job you wanted in the first place!
2. Where You Worked Before
That said, and now you know better, there might have been fabulous roles in places you worked once before. Time to get creative here. Where you worked before; where you were educated; or did a vacation job; or even volunteered.
There are all sorts of places you’ve been before that might hold that totally perfect position just for you. Think hard, dig deep and consider your past!
3. Where Friends or Family Work
So, do you know people who have jobs just like the one you want? How did they get it. Where is it? Are there any more? And whilst you are at it, who do your friends of family know that might be able to help you get closer to that opportunity that you’ve been seeking?
Truth is, most people want to help - if they know what you want. Friends and family are the best place to start. Even if they don’t know, or can’t help directly themselves, chances are that they might know someone who can.
4. In The Newspaper
This is no ordinary search though. you are not reading the Wednesday evening ‘Job Vacancies’ edition (though you can, if you want to). This is a bigger prize. This time you are going to get the biggest and poshest ‘Appointments’ section of the biggest and poshest newspaper.
In the UK it would be the ‘Sunday Times’ or something like that. In the US, it would possibly be the ‘New York Times’ - you get the picture! You are looking for the sort of job that would really appeal - not that it might seem possible right now - that’s not the point.
It’s about what you ‘aspire’ to. Then you will have a better feel for the real ‘perfect job’ for you.
5. At The Careers Service
Maybe much maligned, in many countries of the world there are facilities put on by government to help you find what is right for you. Often highly trained, the professional staff in these places are there to help, so it makes great sense to build a good relationship with them.
Take the time to engage and enquire. Judge the sensitivities and attitudes and play to them. You may be surprised at how much you can get from one of them.
Above all, the best we can do for ourselves is realize that we have the capability to get out there and seek what we deserve. Just appreciating that is much more than most people do.
