How To Dress For Success

Human as we are, we always look into the manner a person dresses and carries herself. You would be a hypocrite not to admit to the fact that many of us judge a person by what she wears and how she projects an image. First impressions can make lasting impressions and if you want to be treated accordingly and with respect when it comes to your position or to your work, then it is of utmost importance that you dress the part and that you dress appropriately.
With the relaxed atmosphere that most companies have with regards to being not strict with their dress code and allowing their staff and employees to dress casually, there are many women who are losing the recognition and the respect they deserve because of how they dress. Coupled with the fact that there are many nowadays who are working at home where it isn’t necessary for them to dress up for work. How you dress up may be secondary compared to your know-how, your knowledge on the job and your attitude towards work but still appearance counts.
There have been studies and experiments wherein two women who had the same ability and the same knowledge dressed differently when making proposals or presentations. Majority would trust and believe more on the woman who was dress accordingly like maybe in pantsuit or business attire compared to the other one who failed when it came to appearance dressing probably in jeans or casual attire.
It isn’t necessary for you to have the face of an angel and the body of a supermodel. What’s important is that you’ll make a better impression with a combination of knowledge, good attitude towards work and appearance especially with regards to what you wear when you meet prospective clients, make presentations at company meetings, etc.
Even if you may only get to wear a business suit a couple of times in a year because you do work at home and you don’t always go out to meet people and make presentations, one or a couple of suits or business attire should be kept in your wardrobe. It is ideal to select classic designs that never go out of style so that you could just wear them over and over again. A skirt and a jacket or a pantsuit would be most appropriate.
Colors should preferably be neutral and in dark shades like black, dark blue and gray. Accessorizing is perfectly fine but avoid overdoing it with elaborate, big and glitzy jewelries. Hair should be kept clean and tidy and make-up should be kept simple.
